Remote monitoring ensures the machine is closely monitored by the client as well as TWSSA, and should a problem arise, the technician can assist online. Remote monitoring will allow for faster problem solving, diesel fills and any other problems that could arise on the generator. This enables all TWSSA customers to conveniently monitor the performance generator sets. Users can access the remote monitoring device from any internet-based operating system using a Microsoft Silverlight – enabled web browser; no additional software is required.
Multiple users can monitor the power system equipment simultaneously. Remote monitoring also provides a SMS/e-mail notification service that informs key identified personnel, support staff and other parties with information regarding the specific generator. The remote monitoring system allows users to monitor generator set data such as fuel level, oil pressure, engine temperature, Eskom on and off signal, Voltage drops, amps, etc.

Remote monitoring and management (RMM), also known as network management or remote service software, is a type of software designed to help managed IT service providers (MSPs) remotely and proactively monitor client endpoints, networks and computers.
The remote generator monitoring system is a live system via mobile network/LAN/satellite connectivity, which enables a user to manage its power generator set and to know what the status / condition of the power generator set is at all times. As critical events occur the system treats each event as it occurs in sequence. These events will be flagged in real-time to pre-identified mobile devices, internet mail addresses and to an online web based system. This system enables a user to be proactive in many ways to ensure that the generator is maintained at all times.
Key alerts and notifications
Alert notifications allow you to stay in full control of your power generator systems, notifying you of any issues that may affect your generator’s performance:
- Low Fuel – The system will notify the user as soon as the fuel level reaches a level where action needs to be taken, ie. fill the power generator set with fuel otherwise the power generator set will not be able to run when it requires to start. Non-compliance to this will create damages to the power generator set and may also have a severe impact on critical sites where electrical power is of the essential.
- Emergency Stop – The system will notify the user as soon as the emergency stop button has been activated. Non-compliance to this will cause the power generator set not to start when an electricity failure occurs. Generator Service – The system will notify the user as soon as the power generator set requires an annual service (run hours). This normally occurs either at 250 hours or once a year. It is recommended that the user contact the recommended service provider to ensure the power generator stays in a good working condition. Power Utility - The system will notify the user as soon as the electricity has failed or restored from the local municipality.
- Power Generator on Standby (stopped) – The system will notify the user as soon as the power generator has stopped naturally and is in a “standby position”.
- Load Supply/ No Load - The system will notify the user as soon as the power generator load supply (power) to the building has started and also when the power from the local municipality has been restored.
- Genset Load Tripped – The system will notify a user when the generator has “Tripped”, this means that the power from the local municipality has most properly failed and the power generator is not operational. This means that either there is an electrical problem or an overload to the power generator.
- Battery Voltage – The system will notify the user as soon as the battery voltage goes below the acceptable levels for the power generator set to start. This means the power generator set will most properly not start during a power outage.
- Engine Temperature - The system will notify the user as soon as the engine temperature exceeds the maximum specified levels. This means the power generator will most likely overheat and shutdown.
